Bosch Wins 2010 Automotive News PACE Award for Innovation Partnership
Bosch received a 2010 Automotive News PACE Award for innovative collaboration. The award was earned for Bosch's partnership with Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) in developing the Vehicle Stability System (VSS) for the three-wheeled Can-Am Spyder.

In addition, Bosch was named a finalist for its Long Range Radar Generation 3 (LRR3) and VSS in the category Product-Europe. “Receiving a PACE Award, which recognizes innovation, technological advancement and business performance, is an honor for the Bosch team," said Peter Marks, chairman, president and CEO, Robert Bosch LLC, and member of the Board of Management. "Products like the VSS and LRR3, demonstrate Bosch’s industry leading capabilities and dedication to bringing advanced safety technologies to market cost competitively. Not only do these safety technologies help save lives, they also offer increased vehicle performance and driver convenience.” VSS is the Only Stability Control System for Three-Wheeled Vehicles. VSS is the industry’s first, and only, electronic vehicle stability control system designed and developed specifically for a three-wheeled vehicle. Working with BRP, Bosch Engineering developed a sophisticated vehicle dynamic control system for a three-wheeled vehicle, that integrates traction control and the full-wheel antilock brake system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution and anti-rollover functionality. The system analyzes motion forces and automatically intervenes if necessary; this includes reducing engine torque and independently applying brakes to each wheel if the inner front wheel is in danger of lifting off the ground during aggressive maneuvers. The Vehicle Stability System was developed in partnership with BRP and branded VSS for the three-wheeled Can-Am Spyder, which launched in North America in 2007. Bosch’s LRR3, the world’s first application of a silicon-germanium (SiGe)-based 77 gigahertz (GHz) radar sensor, is a major step in bringing semiconductor-based radar technologies to the automotive mass market. In addition to being the key component for adaptive cruise control (ACC), LRR3 enables advanced safety functions like Bosch’s predictive collision warning (PCW), emergency braking assist (EBA) and automatic emergency braking (AEB). The first commercial production application of LRR3 launched was in September 2009 on the 2010 Porsche Panamera.
