ESC could prevent 50% of single vehicle crash fatalities

A typical situation today – a group of teens having fun in their car on a perfect sunny day are distracted and find themselves in suddenly dangerous situation. All too often the evasive maneuver to avoid the obstacle leads to over-correction,
loss of control and a crash.

Safety Belts and Airbags are designed to protect the passengers after the crash but what if there were a way to avoid a crash altogether? Well there is and it’s a feature called Electronic Stability Control or ESC for short. ESC is an active safety technology that recognizes when the vehicle is about
to lose control and by automatically braking selective wheels, brings the vehicle back into the intended course of the driver.

Each year in the United States 32,000 passenger vehicle occupants lose their lives in crashes and many more are severely injured. Recent studies by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, IIHS, show that if all vehicles
had ESC up to 50% of single vehicle crash fatalities could
be prevented and save as many as 7,000 lives per year.
