Since then, Bosch has been a driving force in motorsports both in the U.S. and around the world. The company is actively involved in NASCAR, the Indy Racing League (IRL), the Champ Car World Series, and other racing events, supplying spark plugs, alternators and other technology to a variety of racecars.
Since 1991, Bosch spark plugs and/or alternators have approximately 300 NASCAR victories. In 2005 alone, teams running Bosch-equipped vehicles in the various NASCAR series produced 70 wins. Bosch has more IRL wins than any other spark plug. Vehicles equipped with Bosch spark plugs have won 26 Indianapolis 500 races, including the inaugural race in 1911 and the 2006 race. Bosch’s 2006 roster of IRL drivers includes Marco Andretti, Danica Patrick, Helio Castroneves, Al Unser Jr. and the 2006 Indianapolis 500 winner, Sam Hornish Jr.
In 2006, Bosch is chasing an 18th consecutive championship title in the Champ Car World Series. Bosch’s 2006 Champ Car roster of drivers includes Bruno Junqueira, Alex Taglinani and the 2005 champion Sebastien Bourdais.
Additionally, Bosch has partnered with Audi Racing and currently supplies diesel injection technology for the TDI engine of the Race Touareg 2 by Volkswagen as well as the Audi R10. The Audi R10 made racing history in its 2006 debut, being the first diesel vehicle to drive to victory in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
