Post Doc: Combustion Modeling and Heat Transfer Simulations of Complex Geometries

Major (s): Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics and Astronautics

Duties/Tasks: Modeling of turbulent flow, conjugate heat transfer, combustion and pollutant emissions in house hold furnaces.  Pollutant emission modeling - CO, NOx, and particulate matter from premixed natural gas combustion and wood pellet combustion.  Heat exchanger analysis and optimization.  Model development will be a strong component of job.  Post Doc will use commercial RANS codes to quickly provide physical insights to experimental results and for automated design optimization.  Interfacing with university and industrial partners.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Multiphysics computation, combustion modeling, chemical kinetics, heat transfer, physical modeling, parallel computing.
  • Strong background in combustion, fluid dynamics and thermodynamics required
  • Post Doc experience in academia is also a plus
  • Proven research track record required
  • Must display a strong degree of independence with excellent communication and team skills to work effectively in an interdisciplinary and international project team
