When you want to unplug and stay connected

Dremel product owner Christopher Thomson demonstrates the benefits of the cordless and IoT connected 8260 rotary tool in the Mexican Sonoran Desert.

As a do-it-yourselfer, Fernando Porchas knows that not having the right tool or using it incorrectly can lead to mistakes, lost time, extra cost and frustration.

Having the most efficient tool for the job means more time to spend with his family or the chance to tackle more projects.

Introducing connectivity to a rotary tool addresses user pain points with tool performance alerts and information through the Dremel App. This prevents the user from spending time watching DIY videos on which accessory to use and how.

Tackling these pain points using connectivity and with improved tool performance became a passion for a Dremel product team that included Fernando. The result is the world’s first cordless and brushless smart rotary tool, the Dremel 8260.

“We’re not interested in providing connected features that are seen as a gimmick or cool for the sake of being cool. We want to aid our users and improve their experience with the tool.”

With over 180 Dremel rotary accessories and attachments, knowing which one to use and at what speed can be critical. Knowing how much battery power you have left and receiving tool management and performance alerts to the Dremel app on your smart device helps people plan out their projects, for example if they need to charge their battery before they work on their project where there is no power source for a recharge.

“It’s a game changer for users. It really changes the way they can do their projects. The speed, the efficiency, the connected support and the performance are why the reviews are already so great,” says Thomson.

The advanced brushless motor technology extends tool life through optimized performance and durability, making it the highest-performing and most efficient cordless tool offered by the Dremel brand.

The cordless 8260 delivers 20% higher power and efficiency versus Dremel’s most powerful corded tool the 4300; and two-times more battery life and 20% faster cutting speed than the Dremel 8220. It increases tool life as well.

The Dremel 8260 allows you to cut, drill, engrave, carve, grind, sharpen, clean, polish, sand, and rout your way around your next personal or professional project.

“We knew we could make a breakthrough product and make things better and easier for our customers.”
Lead Project Engineer, Fernando Porchas

Fernando has two sons, the oldest is three. “My son likes to watch when I’m fixing things, especially one of his toys. When they get older, I want them to learn how to fix and make things. More importantly, working on a project together creates life-long memories and a great sense of pride,” Fernando says.

“Despite all the challenges, we viewed the 8260 as our baby,” Thomson says. “We felt an almost human connection to the product.”

Thomson sees this as just the beginning.
